Bobby’s Bus Shelter, on the island of Unst in Shetland, has become a famous landmark and tourist attraction. About thirty years ago a local boy named Bobby wrote to the council asking that the island’s dilapidated shelter be replaced so he could wait for the school bus in comfort. The council obliged, but soon the new shelter became an ongoing community project, with themed furnishings and decorations that change each year.
Each year, locals select a new theme—ranging from puffins to whimsical domestic scenes—transforming the shelter into a tiny, ever‐changing cultural exhibit. Today, Bobby’s Bus Shelter stands as a symbol of island creativity, humor, and communal pride.
