The tune title “Abe’s Retreat” most likely refers to the Union defeat at the Battle of Bull Run (also known as First Manassas) on July 21, 1861. The “Abe” in the title is likely a reference to Abraham Lincoln, who was President at the time. The tune is also known by the alternate title “The Battle of Bull Run”. –Google
